Ceto Cetyl Alcohol (Cetearyl Alcohol)
Ceto Cetyl Alcohol (Cetearyl Alcohol)
ShampooWala's, Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol that acts as an emulsifier, stabilizer, and thickening agent in cosmetic formulations. Derived from natural sources like coconut or palm oil, it helps to bind oil and water-based ingredients together, creating a smooth, uniform texture. Cetearyl Alcohol also conditions the skin and hair, providing moisturization and a soft, smooth feel. It is commonly used in creams, lotions, conditioners, and hair masks.

How to Use
Recommended Concentration:
General Usage: Cetearyl alcohol is typically used at concentrations of 1% to 5% in emulsified products, though this can vary depending on the desired effect.
1–3%: For improving the texture, stability, and creaminess of lotions and moisturizers.
3–5%: For more substantial thickening or when creating richer emulsions, like in body butters or hair conditioners.
5%+: For products where the aim is to create a firmer consistency or a more emollient product.
Solubility:
Cetearyl alcohol is oil-soluble and should be incorporated into the oil phase of emulsified formulations. It is not soluble in water and will require heating to integrate fully into your formulation.
Temperature Sensitivity:
Cetearyl alcohol has a melting point around 55–60°C (131–140°F). For proper incorporation, it should be heated to its melting point, generally along with other oil-based ingredients.
It is typically added to the oil phase during the emulsification process when preparing lotions, creams, and other emulsified products.
Compatibility:
With Emulsifiers: Cetearyl alcohol is often used in combination with other emulsifiers, such as Glyceryl Stearate, Polysorbates, and Cetyl Alcohol, to enhance emulsification and improve stability.
With Oils and Butters: It blends well with a wide variety of oils and butters (e.g., coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba oil) to create thick, creamy formulations.
With Active Ingredients: Cetearyl alcohol is compatible with most active ingredients, such as vitamins, herbal extracts, and essential oils, and helps stabilize their incorporation into the final product.
Applications:
Lotions & Creams: Used to stabilize emulsions and add texture, resulting in a smooth, creamy feel without greasiness.
Body Butters & Balms: Helps solidify the formulation and provides a rich, thick texture to body butters, lip balms, and solid skincare products.
Shampoos & Conditioners: It can act as a co-emulsifier in hair care products to improve texture and manageability, leaving the hair soft and smooth.
Cosmetic Products: Used in products like foundations, primers, and sunscreens to improve the spreadability and overall feel of the product.
