How to Use
Recommended Concentration:
General Usage: Decyl glucoside is typically used in concentrations of 5% to 15% in cleansing formulations, though this can vary depending on the desired lather and cleansing strength.
5–10%: For mild cleansing effects, typically used in facial cleansers, shampoos, body washes, and baby products.
10–15%: For more active cleansing or higher foaming properties, used in hair care, body cleansers, and facial washes that require more lather.
Solubility:
Decyl glucoside is water-soluble and can be added to the water phase of the formulation. It is typically added after the heating process to preserve its mild nature.
Mild & Gentle: It does not irritate the skin or strip away natural oils, making it suitable for formulations meant for sensitive or dry skin.
Temperature Sensitivity:
Decyl glucoside is heat-sensitive and can degrade at high temperatures. To preserve its efficacy, it should not be exposed to temperatures above 40–50°C (104–122°F) during the formulation process.
It is typically added during the cool-down phase of an emulsified product or mixed into the water phase after cooling.
Compatibility:
With Other Surfactants: Decyl glucoside works well with other mild surfactants such as Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, and Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine to enhance foaming and cleansing effects without being harsh.
With Active Ingredients: It is compatible with a wide range of active ingredients like essential oils, herbal extracts, and vitamins, making it suitable for use in natural formulations.
With Emulsifiers: It can be combined with emulsifiers like Cetearyl Alcohol or Glyceryl Stearate in emulsions.
Applications:
Shampoos & Conditioners: Used in hair care products to provide gentle, non-stripping cleansing that helps maintain the scalp’s natural oils.
Body Washes & Facial Cleansers: Ideal for body washes and facial cleansers, especially for sensitive skin, as it cleans without causing dryness or irritation.
Baby Products: A popular choice in formulations for baby care products due to its mildness and skin-friendly nature.
Foaming Products: Used in products that require foaming action, such as body scrubs, bubble baths, and cleansing gels.
