Recommended Concentration:

Phenoxyethanol is typically used at 0.5% to 1% in cosmetic formulations, which is the safe and effective concentration for preservation.

Solubility:

Phenoxyethanol is water-soluble up to a concentration of about 1%. For this reason, it is typically added to the water phase of emulsions (such as creams and lotions) or diluted in water-based formulations.

It can also be dissolved in alcohol-based formulations, like toners or perfumes.

Temperature Sensitivity:

Phenoxyethanol is stable at typical formulation temperatures. However, it is best added during the cool-down phase of your formulation (below 40°C) to ensure optimal effectiveness and avoid degradation.

When working with emulsions, add phenoxyethanol after the emulsifier has fully blended the oil and water phases.

Compatibility:

Phenoxyethanol is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients, including water-based ingredients, emulsifiers, and essential oils.

It is often used in conjunction with ethanol, caprylyl glycol, and sodium benzoate in broad-spectrum preservative systems to enhance microbial protection.
